WORKING IN PORTUGAL

However, you must also remember that while living in Portugal these wages would be in proportion to your cost of living. After an increase in the minimum wages that was implemented in January 2008, the minimum wage would be about €426 on a monthly basis. Working in Portugal would be a lot easier if you gain a basic knowledge of the Portuguese language.

While working in Portugal you will have to work from 9am to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm. The maximum legal working week is 40 hours. While living and working in Portugal you may be entitled to an annual leave of 22 working days apart from 12 compulsory public holidays and 2 optional holidays.

If you are a European Union national and possess a Tax and Social Security Number, you are entitled the right of living and working in Portugal without a permit, if you are in possession of a valid passport. While living in Portugal you will enjoy the same rights as a Portuguese citizen with regard to salary, work conditions and your eligibility to housing, vocational training and social security.
